Recalculating … what the Garmin, the GPS guidance system now used by so many car drivers,  says when you have gone in a direction contrary to its plan.

It reminds me of the recalculating that must be done when there is an unexpected pregnancy.  Working at the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Northfield, formerly Birthright, I have seen how difficult it can be for the pregnant woman who may have planned to go  to college or her parents who are embarrassed or her boyfriend who doesn’t feel ready for the responsibility.

At Highview Hills iin Lakeville, a senior living facility, they show a different movie everyday, at 1 and 7 PM, ordering most of them from Netflix.

Lectio divina is being encouraged by the church today as a way to better understand Sacred Scripture and as a way to pray.

Dr. Tim Gray is his book Praying Scripture for a CHANGE, An Introduction to Lectio Divina not only gives the rationale behind doing it but explains, very well, practical ways of doing it. 

He also extends the usual four steps of  lectio, meditatio, oratio and contemplatio – reading, meditating, praying and contemplating – to a fifth step : operatio – doing, working or carrying out a practical resolution based on the first four steps.

When I first became a Catholic, this talk by Dr. Scott Hahn was one of the primary sources that taught me about the Mass. I don’t remember where I found it originally, but it’s the same recording — very rich and flush with profound explanations about what happens at Mass.

I'm Not Being Fed by Jeff CavinsJeff Cavins grew-up Catholic and fell away during college to become a Protestant Pastor for some years before coming back to the truth of the Catholic Church. Some of you may even be aware that our own beloved Bishop Dudley had a hand in bringing Jeff back to the Church.

This CD is part of a collection of CDs from various Catholic speakers (human speakers, not stereo speakers ;-)) that are freely available on the media cart (aka. “mobile library”) in the narthex. The CDs are put out by a non-profit organization called Catholic Lighthouse Media.
