The education and respect life committees  provided the complimentary soup supper on the second Friday of Lent at 6:30 PM between the English and Spanish stations.  There were about 80 people there, somewhat fewer than the previous week when the Hispanic community provided the food.  We wish more of them had been at the supper; it was our chance to return their wonderful hospitality.

Mara Mangan — our parish’s Director of Faith Formation — just wrapped-up a two day retreat (one overnight) with our 10th grade confirmation students this past weekend. The retreat was held at the Mt. Olivet retreat center just up the road in Farmington — a quiet, peaceful place out in the country.

This year’s retreat was titled, “Strength: God Provides”, with a focus on spiritual gifts.

I just returned from this year’s St. Dominic school Saints Night Out silent and live auction event.

There were a lot of people there and seemed about as well attended as in recent years. The dinner was all you could eat (for a $10 entry fee) and was very good.

New this year was the Cool Cash for Education raffle. Tickets were $100 each, and I think they sold 272 tickets by the end. I don’t remember all the names of people who won, but I think there were something like 24 people that received a cash prizes from the raffle: $100 (10), $200 (5), $500 (5), $750 (2), $1000 (1), $2000 (1).

That means from the raffle alone, the school netted around $18,000. Very nice catch!

There were lots of other really nice auction items donated — hunting trips, group dinners, motor scooter, wine rack/cabinet. It’s really incredible what is offered from generous donors and all the volunteer hours that go into setup and running the event.

So, did you attend the auction this year? What did you think? Chime-in with a comment below.
